Bienvenidos! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- brachial plexus I think I went a bit overboard on my lunch today. Mashed papa dulce with spicy lentejas. It could easily feed two, but I thought when I put what I wanted in the pan, 'what's the point in leaving two spoonfuls?' Pah. I'll just go easy on dinner tonight. Right. We did nerves of the arm today, and I always get these confused. Brachial plexus - C5 to T1. Axillary, musculocutaneous, median, radial and ulnar. Axillary - behind the arm, 5cm down from the acromion (spelling?) to the front. Supplies the deltoid muscle (arm abduction) and the 'regiment badge' area with sensation. Injury via dislocation/trauma/iatrogenic Musculocutaneous - no idea where it goes, but supplies the biceps and brachialis (supination and flexion of forearm) and some sensory there as well. Median - runs axilla-->medial aspect arm-->antecubital fossa between biceps tendon and medial epicondyle-->between heads of pronator teres-->under flexor retinaculum-->somewhere in the hand. Supplies wrist flexors, interphalangeal joint flexors and thenar muscles, plus sensation of thumb, forefinger and middle finger Radial - axilla-->loops around the groove thingy-->lateral arm-->in front of lateral epicondyle-->forearm then hand somewhere. Supplies extensors - triceps, wrist extensors and MCP joint extensors, plus sensory to first web space Ulnar - axilla-->posterior arm-->behind medial epicondyle-->down forearm-->over flexor retinaculum-->small muscles of hand. Controls flexion of MCP joints and extension on IP joints, supplies sensation to pinkie and ring finger. There's also something about thumb movements that I can't remember now. Well, finished my lunch, finally. Going to go revise obstetrics now. Bye! 2:30 p.m. - 2007-05-31 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
