Bienvenidos!

Crikey, he was a beauty

Updating from Aintree between sessions. I think we've got a ward round this afternoon. Ward round = achey back, being ignored by doctors, and not learning anything useful. Will probably go and talk to a couple of patients afterwards to get some more of those yummy core cases.

The annoying thing about getting up at 6 every day is that I'm always ravenous by midday. I'm already hungry but I think 11:30 is a bit early for lunch, especially seeing as how we've got more than two hours before the dreaded WR starts. If I'd have known we'd be waiting around this long I would have brought my PBL stuff. Oh well. I've been thinking about giving some people nicknames like my fellow diarylanders, but as we're only on each attachment for a couple of weeks they'd be changing far too often. No longer would I be able to chronicle the exploits of Dr Frizzyhair-NoNameTag or Dr KnowsFarTooMuchForAnSHOMakesMeFeelStupid. Hmm. Maybe that nickname is a bit long.

Changing topic completely, I was so shocked and sad this morning when I heard that Steve Irwin had died. I know he was a crazy croc-wrestling Oz but he deserved to live well into his nineties and still be wearing the shorts. I feel bad for his wife and children. And how unfortunate - he was only the third person ever to die from a stingray to the chest.

Mario has gone to talk to his supervisor today to tell her he can't carry on with the PhD. It was always touch-and-go but since we've found out that he's not eligible for council tax exemption he just can't afford to pay tuition as well. It completely sucks that no-one seems to want to make this easier for him. He spent last year working to keep himself in the degree part-time and didn't have any time left over to study, and there's no way he'd be able to work, study and pay council tax this year. I just hope someone gives him a job soon. It's not like he hasn't been trying; he's been sending off a couple of applications every week but hears nothing. He's either too inexperienced or he's overqualified or doesn't fulfil quota numbers or something. Sometimes I hate this country for that. I want to go somewhere simpler with less red tape.

But enough about that. We went to Ikea on Saturday and got the new wardrobe and the new bar for the other one, only to find out that it hasn't been threaded right and needs to be exchanged. Mierda. So we still don't have a clothes rail. Also got the cake tin and airtight container so we're all set to go on the christmas cake front. I'll probably do that next weekend. Anyway. Been waffling along about crap because nothing exciting has happened in the last week. Until my next mundane entry, I bid thee farewell.
