Bienvenidos!

fencing, medals, and a graveyard picnic...

i need more inspiration for this diary. at the moment i'm sat in the sid jones again, killing time while mario shuffles some stuff round on the fencing website. i do have newsy type stuff, and it follows thusly:

this weekend was the end of year comp at the fencing club. it meant much earlier mornings than i'm used to at a weekend, but was great fun. didnt do as well as i wanted in epee - the way the indicators went meant i had to fence kate in the semi finals and consequently got knocked out, putting bryony in the final instead of me. bah. i was so frustrated at losing to kate (since i've beaten her before) that i let off far too many expletives, kicked my water bottle at the wall and hurled my mask to the floor. i could have cried, but thankfully didnt. i was surprised at how much i actually wanted to win that. so yeah. bronze in epee. i was poo at sabre but kind of expected that; came fifth. foil though.. foil was coooooooool. we only had one round of pools, and i got put with del and susan. susan took me to 5-4, but i whitewashed del. poor gal. she kicked ass at sabre tho. i came up against susan again in the semi finals and won 15-8, which kind of pissed her off. then it was a long wait til the final against bryony. i honestly thought i was going to throw up at one point during that. at the start, i managed to gain a 7-0 lead, but after the first minute break she started getting points back and i started getting tired. at one point she overtook me, but i managed to pull back to 13-all, then got the final two hits. that took an amazing amount of effort but damn was it worth it! i was so pleased to get gold in something, and quite chuffed that it was foil, the weapon i'm usually not so strong in. in the guys' competition, mario won the gold in epee, after a very tense match against chris ford, the bronze in sabre, but got knocked out in the semis in foil. was fun! mum and dad arrived saturday afternoon and dad treated us all to dinner at ask.

which was kewl, and went pretty well for a meeting the parents in the context of this-is-my-new-boyfriend type thing. after dinner we had a short wander, then mario and i went back to his place to watch Doctor Who whilst mum and dad went back to the hotel. we had the medal presentaion thing on the sunday afternoon, then mum and dad went home (but i should be getting the tapes of teh tournament soon!) and most of the fencers went to the font for food and stuff. when we left all i wanted to do was sleep, which i did for a bit, then decided to go with mario when he went to evening mass, just out of curiosity really. it was ok. interesting. i've only ever seen CofE services before. after we left, as it was such a nice evening, we went for a walk and he showed me the quarry behind the anglican, where we were having a picnic the next day, then we had a wander almost into town. saw a very pretty cloud rainbow thing when we were stood at the top of the hill. when i remember what it's called i'll put it here. investigated the prices at a couple of restaurants, and then i decided i wanted a milkshake, so we went off in search of one. as it was a sunday, and about 9pm, i wasnt very hopeful, but on bold street we found eddie rocket's diner, which was still open, and not badly priced. i had a strawberry shake, and mario had a vanilla malt, and we shared a fudge brownie with ice cream whilst elvis and the beatles played in the background. it was so grease but utterly fantastic. they do tuna melts! with onion! i was about as excited at that as mario when he saw that they do footlong chilli dogs! i think we'll definitely be going back there in the not too distant future. i was sat there the whole time with such a silly grin on my face... i dont think i've ever had so much fun in a relationship as i am with mario now - it's great, the spontaneity, the fun, the hugs and kisses... and everything else... ah it's brilliant.

anyway.

we got back home quite late and decided to re-heat some leftovers as we'd only had dessert since lunchtime and had been fencing all day. when i woke up on moday i was sooooo achey it was unbelievable. slept in quite late actually, then rushed over to asda to get stuff for the picnic that afternoon.

(how did it get to 4:30pm with me having written 14 words of my report. 14!)

we met up with everyone at abercromby square, and i decided to break character and wear a skirt for the occasion. i was not the only one! at about half two we started walking down to the quarry, which looked great in the sunlight, and found ourselves a sunny spot not too near anyone else. we spread a couple of blankets out and everyone started unpacking food - there was so much, i thought we'd never be able to finish it... the skirt didnt last long. it was too annoying to sit down in so i put my jeans on instead. mario made sangria and i tried not to spill things (didnt work. my blanket smells all foodie now...) i ate far too much cheese that day. far too much. and french baguette, chicken, scones, and muchos sangria! the guys played cricket for most of the afternoon whilst the girls sat around talking, or laughing at the guys... we packed up when the sun started to hide behind the tower, stopped off at the cambridge where some people had a drink, then me, mario, del and andy went over to mikes for games. was kewl, we fought monsters and ate more chicken.

as this entry is now waaaay too long, i'm going to leave it here. will update next time as and when stuff happens...
